Running an MSA
1 What areas should our MSA concentrate on ?
Unity
The main goal is to develop unity within in the school/campus
Islamic knowledge/Awareness
Spread awareness of Islam to non Muslims to help discard stereotypes as well as spread knowledge to Muslims to help them become better in their religion.
Fundraising
It is very important to concentrate on fundraising in order to have successful events and activities. Examples:
- fundraising dinners
- write letters to Islamic centers or organizations for donations
- collect donations after Jummah prayers
2 What are the manners/characteristics of a good MSA
Remember that you're representing Muslims in the school/campus. Its important to give a good impression. Your attitude can serve as something to attract non Muslims or repel them. Some things to watch out for are:
- keep a good relationship with members/administrators/sponsor etc
- never talk rudely even if you're being wronged because that will only make things worse
- always be diplomatic in your dealings (don’t get upset etc)
- always clean up after Jummah and MSA meetings
- always remember you are not like other clubs, you represent Islam and your MSA is serving Allah
3 Are we allowed to advertise the MSA?
Yes, but make sure your advertisement does not contain anything that will offend anyone in the
school/college. Also it should not go against the rules and regulations of the school/college.
4 Do we need to have a constitution? If yes, then how do we get one?
You don’t need a constitution. If you would like to have one or if you’re school insists that you have one then contact nvmsa@nvmsa.8m.net
