1 What kinds of fundraisers can we do?

- Food Sales (candy, pizza, baked goods). Things that sell best

- Games Booth (have games which have prizes)

- Penny Drives

-  Penny Wars

-  “Something” Drive

-  Fundraising Dinner (see question #5 under Events & Activities)

-  Fundraising Bazaar


2 What are some good events/activities to do?

-  Contests

-  Fieldtrips

- Lectures/Workshops

-  Eid Parties (brothers and sisters separate)

-  Make Eid Cards

-  Basket ball (or any other sport) Tournament

-  Picnic

-  Bulletin Board (could be for Eid, hajj, or any other Islamic related topic)

·        Go to your local mosque and ask them for Islamic pamphlets, brochures, posters etc they have.

·        Go to a local Islamic bookstore (i.e. Halal co) and get any cheap posters

·        For supplies go to these websites

o       contact Saudi embassy

·        Ask kids in school for posters or pictures of Islamic stuff [mosques, Ka’aba, etc].

·        Print stuff off the internet.

·        Get pictures off software such as Microsoft Word / Corel draw.

·        DRAW!!

·        And use your imagination to make them creative, colorful and eye catching (use colored paper, markers and glitter).

·        Make a collage of Islamic vocabulary

·        Type up and print short Hadith and verses from the Quran

·        Write down some of Allah’s names on square sheets of paper and put them side by side to make a border for the bulletin board

·        Write down the names of prophets on square (or any other shaped) pieces of paper (it may be colored) and put them together to make a border for the bulletin board

·        Get pamphlets from any mosque or Islamic center and put them up with the title of the display saying “Clueless?” or anything else that grabs your attention

·        Make a display case in the library of books

o       get Islamic books from your school library

o       check out books from the public library

o       bring books from home (make sure you write down who brought  the books so you can return it to those kids)

NOTE: And make sure when you make these display cases that you write on it somewhere that its done by the Muslim Students Association (not MSA) because most people probably don’t know what it stands for 


3 What kinds of activities/fundraisers/events can we do during Ramadan

-  Have motivation lectures every week

-  Arrange an Iftaar -(food for breaking fast in Ramadan)

-  “Something” drive

5 How can we organize a dinner? What questions do we consider?

  1. who is going to speak (speaker.. sponsor.. president etc)

  2. what will the program look like

  3. what will be the topic

  4. who will be the speaker

  5. where will the event be held

  6. how much will you charge for the tickets

  7. who will be in charge of selling the tickets

  8. who will be in charge of publicizing

  9. how many volunteers do you need
       - what tasks need to be done (b4 event, day of, during and after)

  10. how much money do you have to spend on this dinner. can you afford
    to go in negative (check with the finance person in your school)

  11. how are you going to get the food (see question #6 for suggestions)

  12. who will be in charge of buying supplies for the dinner

  13. what supplies do we need and how much (ie. Table cloths, plates, cups etc)

  Note:  instead of writing actual time or program, estimate time spans. Use time such as maghrib so you don’t look late even if you are late.
